Continuing the Turkey Tramp tradition. We will meet at the Trail head located ½ mile into Mashamoquet Brook State Park located on Route 44 in Pomfret, CT. This 4 ½ mile, moderate, dog on leash hike, will allow you to crawl into the historic Wolf Den; sit on Indian Chair, where Chief Uncas once sat; take a short water/snack break; visit Stephen Avery’s Revolutionary War grave site; get Post Thanksgiving exercise and enjoy good company for a peaceful fun time. Please meet at 10:30 AM for an 11 AM sharp start. We will have an optional late lunch around 2:15 PM at the Vanilla Bean Café. This event is also listed with other groups. Driving Directions: From Hartford: 84 east to exit 69 to 44 east; Providence: RT 6 west to 44 west; Worcester and New London: 395 to exit 93 to 101 west to 44 west. Park is located about 2 miles from 101/44 junction on left side. For GPS use 276 Mashamoquet Road, Pomfret, CT. Due to the forecast for extremely cold weather for this day, this trip has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

  Winter Hike and Potluck

Come join us for a wander through the pine woods and ponds of Plymouth in mid winter. We will hike 5-6 miles on trails and back roads through the largest conservation area in Eastern MA.  We plan on hiking down to the shores of Boot Pond where an artist has done murals in an abandoned building on a cranberry bog. If there is heavy snow on ground we can snow shoe. Bring winter boots and a change of clothes. After the hike we will gather for a potluck lunch. If you cannot make the hike you can still join us for lunch. If it rains we can still do lunch. Plan on lunch around 1:30 PM.

  Great Brook Farm State Park Beginner Snowshoe or hike

Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle, MA is a great place to try out snowshoeing. There are over 20 miles of trails to explore. The park rents snowshoes and cross country skies at a reasonable rate. The Farms level trails through woods and fields afford the perfect venue to try out snowshoeing or just enjoy a winters walk. After exploring the park we can venture down to nearby Ferns General Store for lunch. This is a dog friendly event. Let's hope for some snow on the ground. Snowshoes rent for $15 per day. If there is no snow we will go for a nice hike.

  Windblown Cross Country Skiing

Unfortunately due to the lack of snow and predictef weather for Saturday, This event has been Cancelled.

For his first event, Pat wants to co-host and be your guide at Windblown Cross Country Ski Area. Are you knew to the sport and want to learn, this is a great event for beginners. Windblown is snuggled in the hills just over the Massachusettts State line in New Ipswich, NH. We will spend the day cross country skiing and socializing. At Windblown there are trails for everyone and their skill level. 


  Spring Hike and Potluck Lunch

Join us for hike around the ponds and woods of Plymouth. The last couple of times we tried this hike the weather did not participate. Let's hope for better luck this Sunday. We will hike 5-6 miles through conservation lands around the ponds in the northern portion of the 16,000 acres in the center of Plymouth. This is an amazing and diverse wildlands. Our hike will be on back roads and trails. After our hike we will gather for a potluck lunch. If you cannot make the hike but wish to join us for lunch plan on meeting us back at the house at 1:30 PM. If it rains, again, we will still have lunch.

  Blue Hills Reservation, White Dot Trail Hike

Pack a lunch and join us for an easly 6 mile hike on the White Dot Trail at the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton. We will hike at an easy pace through the woods in spring.  This is a good dog friendly hike. We will meet up at the parking area at Houghton Pond.

  Spring Activity Day, Maudsley State Park

Chiltern Spring Activities Day, Saturday, April 28th at Maudsley State Park, Newburyport, Mass.

This spring we are headed north of Boston to Maudsley State Park in Newburyport, MA. Come join us for our annual Spring Activities Day at this beautiful State Park along the Merrimack River, where there are trails for hiking and biking. No need to register, just show up.

Arrive at the park at 10 am (we’ll have coffee ready for you, and bathrooms are available).  The charge for the day is $5 per person.

Head out on a nice easy walk along the river amongst the rhododendrons.  If you brought a bike, there are miles of trails to ride.  Bring a pack lunch and water to have while you are out on the trip. Return to the parking lot by 1pm where there are lawns available for us to play croquet.
